Abou Trika to Echorouk : “I shun polemics… my high regard for the Algerians is still unblemished”
Abou Trika

The renowned playmaker of the Egyptian national football squad, Abou Trika, remains faithful to his good reputation by refusing to engage in the insane and low-down polemics touched off by the Egyptian media after the 2 decisive world cup qualifiers which opposed Egypt and Algeria in Cairo and then in Khartoum (Sudan).

  • During a telephone conversation with the newspaper “Echorouk”, Abou Trika indicated that he had abstained willingly from making comments to the venomous Egyptian press in the aftermath of the Algeria-Egypt play-off match held on November 18th in Khartoum in order to avoid “adding fuel to the fire” as the Egyptian street was boiling over after Egypt’s elimination.
  •
  • Abou Trika underlined, to this effect, that reason and common sense should prevail in all circumstances adding that he had no personal problem whatsoever with Echorouk or any other Algerian newspaper to whom he has never rejected any request for a declaration or an interview, as he put it.
  •
  • Abou Trika also indicated that he had steered clear of certain untoward and negative statements made by some of his disgruntled team-mates who were at their wits’ end after the 1-0 setback versus Algeria in the Khartoum play-off.
  •
  • The Egyptian football star explained that he remained true to himself and to his principles by refusing to be drawn into the frenzied Egyptian media’s disparagement campaign against the Algerians for whom, he still has a high regard which couldn’t be impaired on account of a football match even after a defeat, he said.
