About 200 disgruntled citizens stage street protests and block a road in suburban Baraki municipality
About 200 angry citizens staged on Sunday a protest demonstration outside the town hall of the locality of Baraki on the eastern outskirts of Algiers to demand the installation forthwith of power lines in their neglected housing compound of Bayou Hamza, arguing that they had been deprived of electricity for the past seven years.
- The protesters gathered outside the local town hall for several hours and demanded to be received by the Mayor of Baraki himself in order to expound their pressing concerns and grievances.
- However, the required encounter with the Mayor didn’t finally take place but some of the protesters told Echorouk on the spot that they had received firm assurances from the head of the municipality that swift measures would be taken to remedy the situation.
- The protesters vowed however to take up again with their protest action immediately if their legitimate demands were not met in the next few days.
