Acquiring real estates in Spain doesn’t mean resident permit, Spanish ambassador says

The Spanish ambassador to Algeria Gabriel Busquets has revealed that his country delivered 70 thousands visas for the Algerians over the year 2012 through its consulates in Algiers and Oran. The number has increased by 20% in comparison with the year 2010.

The ambassador has indicated that the commercial exchanges between the two countries has reached 8 billion Euros last year , noting that the President of the Government of Spain Mariano Rajoy will pay a visit tomorrow to Algeria on top of a delegation comprising the Foreign Affairs minister, interior, commerce, energy and industry, education, culture and sports.

Expressing himself over the frenzy of the acquisition of real estates in Spain by the Algerians, the official has indicated that the Spanish legislation allows foreigners to acquire real states in line with the legislation in force, but this doesn’t give them the right to acquire a resident permit.

The Spanish authorities are envisaging the possibility to deliver a resident permit for investors only, he said.

Taking the floor yesterday before journalists at the Spanish consulate premises her in Algiers, Busquets has asserted that his country is taking seriously the issue of visas between the two countries, noting that things evolve positively focussing on the number of visas delivered to the Algerians which witnessed an increase of 20 % in comparison with 2010.
