Adlene Guedioura: Algeria Can Win The African Cup Of Nations
Algerian International Midfielder Adlene Guedioura has voiced his opinion that Algeria could win the African Cup of Nations.
Holding midfielder Adlene Guedioura was one of the surprise inclusions in Algeria’s 2010 World Cup squad and the Wolverhampton midfielder is still proud of having made it to South Africa this summer.
“I took part in a little bit of history, being a member of one of the few Algerian teams to have made it to the World Cup finals. That’s something I’m very proud of. When I heard I’d been called up, I thought of my Dad straight away. He was also capped for Algeria, but never got the opportunity to play on such a grand stage,” said Guedioura to fifa.com.
The midfielder then turned his attention to the qualifying campaign of the 2012 Afican Cup of Nations.
“On the one hand, there’s the pressure of living up to our recent achievements. On the other hand, it’s time to move on from the World Cup and to focus on the future. We’re going through a transitional phase, but we’re still going to give it all that we’ve got. And looking at the talent at our disposal, I would say that I’m more confident than worried, really.
“Qualifying for the African Cup of Nations is a prerequisite. We’re going to have to be at our best. I even think we could go on and win the tournament. And I’d love to help my country to qualify for a second World Cup in a row. When you get a little taste of that sort of success, it just increases your hunger.”
Guedioura sustained a broken leg at the weekend and won’t be able to show his potential on the pitch for quite a while.
