“I wish I could play the derby clash against Morocco,” former international goalkeeper Gaouaoui
At his 33, Gaouaoui says he still fit to play for the Desert Foxes

Former international goalkeeper Lounes Gaouaoui said he is working hard to gain back a place with the national squad, adding he wishes he were picked up with the Desert Foxes for the derby clash against Morocco in the Day 4 of CAN 2012 qualifiers, in Marrakech, next 4 June.

Gaouaoui told Echorouk that “choosing Spain to prepare the derby is a wise decision, as the players could be safeguarded there from the pressure, which would help them concentrating for the crucial tie.”

Asked about his vision to the derby, former internationalist said: “Well, I agree with coach Benchikha when he said it will be a final like game, for the two teams need the three points, though the one point draw would be enough for our squad,” adding “I guess, the pressure will be on the Moroccans who will be required to win, for they are playing at home!”

He specified that “Technically speaking, the Moroccan squad enjoys talented individualities who play in different European championships. The squad has not been tested in a tough game yet. I guess the Moroccan team will give its best against Algeria to snatch the victory, and I guess our squad will be ready for the challenge.”

Gaouaoui, 33 year, who is currently playing for ASO Chlef, further admitted he wishes he were with the Desert Foxes in Spain. “It’s always hard for me to watch the national squad on TV, for I feel I’m still able to help the team, mostly in this crucial clash against Morocco,” adding: “I’ll continue working hard to return to the Greens and serve my country.”
