“Mascarade†is not an Algerian film: Amar Laskri
Algerian film director Amar Laskri said is against of making films with French producers. He told echorouk that he does not consider a film like “Mascarade†as an Algerian film.

“I can’t do not consider this as an Algerian work, even if it tells an Algerian story and the awards it gets do not hold the name of Algeria”, he added.

Graduated from the School of Cinema and Theatre in Belgrade, Amar Laskri confirmed that there is no cinema in Algeria, however it was successful in the past without any French help.

On the other hand Laskri says “Costa Gavares “Z” is an Algerian work despite it was financed by foreigners, because, the Algerian production contributed with the largest funding. As well the “Battle of Algiers” which was directed by an Italian dorector, but Algeria financed it that’s why it is pure Algerian film”.

He further added that Algerian film making fell under French financial dominationwhich does not allow it development. The government also is not according to him providing support to film production.
