“Revolutions lead to liberty when they believe in resistance,” al-Zahar

Foreign Minister at the government of Palestinian Hamas, Mahmoud al-Zahar said he is proud and happy to visit Algeria for the first time, and meet emblematic senior leaders of the Algerian Revolution.

Echorouk organized on Saturday a history conference to discuss the Algerian Revolution and its impact on the Palestinian resistance. Several Hamas members, led by Mahmoud al-Zahar have been invited to attend the conference along with Algerian mujahidins (veteran combatants). 

Co-founder of Hamas told Echorouk: “Well, we are so happy and proud to sit side by side with those resistants in the land of resistance and martyrs, Algeria,” adding: “We are here to learn from the experience of Algerian mujahidin in terms of combat and resisting occupation forces; and it’s really an honour to me to be here in this country of which sacrifice and proud are carried in our blood and veins.”

Al-Zahar further added: “As I lisntened to interventions of Algerian mujahidin, I’ve remembered the beginning of the resistance movement in Palestine, including late Cheikh Ahmed Yacine, who inaugurated the path of the revolution under the slogan of the resistance until victory.”

He further stressed that Palestinians have to believe in resistance as a way toward independence just like their Algerian counterparts did once against the French occupation.
