“There will be no food price crisis in Ramadan,” says minister

There will be no crisis in consumption main products like milk, vegetable oil, sugar, flour, pulses and meat in the fasting month of Ramadan, Algerian trade minister Mustapha Benbada said Thursday.

• “Those products are sufficiently available to satisfy the local consumption market needs at reasonable prices without any speculations,” Mustapha Benbada told reporters in the province of Oran (west of Algiers).

• Detailed reports presented by the agriculture ministry show that the current production of those products is sufficient and available.

• The trade ministry held a meeting with a number of economic operators to prepare an action plan to avoid any possible crisis or shortage.

• According to 140 operators in pasta, the production is sufficient.
•  
• The minister stressed the necessity of organising informal markets and supervising the foreign trade issue through agreements with foreign countries. This is meant to end imitation and non respect of quality standards.
