In the beginning, we did not believe that we were safe. As if we were in the hell. We saw all kinds of weapons. People on Gaza-bound aid ships were shouting “Allah is the Greatest” from midnight to dawn. A large number of Israeli soldiers attacked the flotilla and were looking for Turkish and Algerian people. Then, the ship’s captain announced that his wife had been detained.

How did the Israeli soldiers deal with women? Were you harassed and did men search you?

They bound us for nine hours under the sun. They prevented us from everything even toilets and water. They were happy to see some of us week and fainted because of the hot weather. Male soldiers tried to search us but we refused and insisted on being searched by women. The “tomboys” insulted and humiliated us.

Did the female Israeli soldiers torture you?

They were beating us. They searched us for more than six times and interrogated us for ten times. They even searched our underwear. When we refused to be searched by men, female soldiers came and tried to torture us psychically. They beat and insulted us. They were talking to us in Arabic, English and Hebrew.

Once they knew that I had a diplomatic passport, I was told I would be interrogated in a different way. A Zionist general questioned me: “So, you are a diplomat. Why have you come to Israel?” I told him: “I have come to Gaza and you kidnapped me from the international waters. I will sue you.” He wrote down a red sign on my passport.
