Algeria was defeated by Senegal1-0 in a match described by the Algerian coach Rabah Saadane as difficult despite his criticism of the Ghanaian arbitrage. The only goal was scored by the Senegalese A.Fay in the 79th minute.

The Algerian team entered with a cautious plan relying on defence in the presence of Jabour who was assisted by Saifi during rebounds. The first shot was by Senegal striker Henri Camara, who hit the ball from a distant corner.

Saadane justifies defeat by arbitrage errors

He said in a statement after the match: “we played a good game but we were defeated and the public saw an interesting match.”

He noted mistakes committed by the referees for many times and which “were for the benefit of Senegal”.

Speaking on the offensive line’s failure in reaching the Senegalese goalkeeper Tony Silva, Saadane said: “we failed in scoring goals but the match was difficult for the Senegalese team. They will feel free after that goal. This is the first match and we will do our best to improve our results in the remaining matches”.

As for the Senegal coach Lamine Ndya, he confirmed after the match m “we had already stated that the Algerian team has a good level and a bright future despite we are difficultly winning”.
