Al-Qaeda in Algeria fails in suicide method and returns to old criminal acts

• This new strategy reflects his failure and inability to carry out suicide attacks. In addition, it is an attempt to face the sweep operations carried out by the army forces, several months ago at the terrorists’ strongholds. It also reflects its inability to carry out attacks using explosives after its funding sources have been restricted as well as control on agricultural fertilizers and chemicals, then tightened control on borders.
• On another level, it confirmed a drop in the number of those convinced in suicide actions legitimacy after the campaign that accompanied recent operations when religious scholars said “there is no legitimacy here”.
• In the same tape, we saw youngsters who were recruited in 2006 and who were supposed to carry out suicide attacks. They have not yet been subjected to combat exercises during that period.

The organization suffers nowadays from ammunition and weapons lack in light of tightening control on borders. Then, foiling many attacks in Ouargla, Ghardaia ( west of Algeria), and Tizi Ouzou ( middle Algeria) recently, especially since Belmokhtar’s ( Al Awar, the ninth region’s Emir in Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb) announced to stop his armed activity and entered serious negotiations with authorities to surrender and benefit from the National Reconciliation’s provisions.
