Al-Qaeda leader and his ill acolyte surrender to Algerian Army

Reliable sources reported by “Echourouk” revealed that one of a longtime wanted leader of the North African branch of Al Qaeda along with another seriously ill terrorist suffering from kidney failure, surrendered to the National Popular Army (ANP) last week.

Reliable sources reported by “Echourouk” revealed that one of a longtime wanted leader of the North African branch of Al Qaeda along with another seriously ill terrorist suffering from kidney failure, surrendered to the National Popular Army (ANP) last week.

The two elements had in their possession two machine guns (Kalashnikov) and a huge quantity of ammunitions. They were among a large group besieged by the national army troops in the forest region located between both localities of Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou.

The terrorist leader led the elements of the national army to various hideouts, located in the dense forest region of “Bounaamane”, where the terrorists use to stock provisions, including dry foods and oil. The quantity of these stocks amounted to more than 50 quintals of dry foods and dozen litters of oil.

Crucial elements of information were revealed by the terrorist to the army officers, including the existence of women and children living in the underground dens, deeply dug. He added that these dens are extremely difficult to reach and posses several outlets.

He also added that the terrorists have set up mines in areas surrounding the main entrance at hundreds meters around.

In this respect a large-scale combing operation backed by a mine –clearance squad is carried out since a month now, by thousands of troops in the region to dislodge these terrorists. Six terrorists have been killed and two arrested during the operation.
