Al-Zawahiri alleges Al-Qaeda in Algeria does not target civilians

No 2 man at Al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri in a new audiotape called on what he called “Algeria's people” to not be afraid of possible attacks targeting civilians in that country. In the tape which was posted on the Internet, al-Zawahiri addressed to Algerians saying “my Muslim brothers in Algeria, I ensure you that your brothers in Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb are the most people caring for your lives, money and dignity. They are carrying out a jihad war for God to free you from America, France and its sons.” Al-Zawahiri tried to “ensure” Algerians that the scenario of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) which killed targeted civilians would not repeat. 

He also tried to confirm that this terrorist organisation executes the “instructions” of Al-Qaeda. He said he was leading a war against western interests.

 On the other hand, observers say the audiotape determines the strategy which may be adopted by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb led by Abdelmalek Drudkel to catch up with losses caused by the GIA’s method based on suicide attacks.
