Algeria / 10 out of 55 contract teachers on hunger strike in appalling health condition.

According to a doctor in charge of following – up the health condition of the 55 contract teachers who are currently observing a protracted hunger strike for socio – professional claims, 10 of there are now being jolted between life and death.

• Houari Kaddour has tolled the alarm bell stressing that these 10 hunger – strikers are suffering from kidney failure and any moment.
• In this respect, trade unionists and members of the civil society expressed during a meeting held on Friday in Algiers deep concern at the dire situation of these 55 striking teachers including several women and urgently called on the relevant authorities to intervene swiftly and seriously look into the strikers’ legitimate claims before it is too late.
• They stressed that this issue had now become a humanitarian emergency.
