Algeria: 250 Muslims convert to Christianity in Bouira
More than 250 people have recently converted to Christianity in Bouira Province, according to unofficial sources.
New recruited in Christianity who converted to it five years ago are in charge of luring people and trying to convince them in Christianity in return for money, said the same sources.
1,000 dinars for everyone who prays at church on Friday
According to an imam in the town, everyone knows that new Christians go to Ighil Ali church in Bejaia Province on eastern borders with Bouira in return for 1,000 Algerian dinars every Friday.
“Evangelisation was secretly carried out for fears of reject by Muslims. Later, evangelists in Bejaia convinced people that there was nothing wrong in Christianity and they have to defend their religion exactly like Muslims,” Mohaned, who converted to Christianity in 2001, told Echorouk.
Residents said one of their neighbours had been given money to complete the construction of his house.
French clubs and Algerian migrants fund evangelisation
A repentant Christian said he had converted to Christianity by means of a French club which sent him different books on Christianity with exercises to be done.
Some of the books contained questions like: Who is God? Who is Jesus? The ones who correctly answered the questions are rewarded with different prizes including a travel ticket and a visa to France.
Imams in Bouira said most of evangelisation campaigns are led by migrants from France and Spain.“A teacher of Arabic at a junior high school converted to Christianity and went to Spain. Then, he started leading evangelisation campaigns.”
Evangelists want to build a church next to a mosque
An imam asked authorities for help to stop the evangelisation campaigns in Bouira which are trying to recover a library next to a mosque. They claim that it used to be a Catholic church and want to open it for Christians.
“New Christians in Bouira feel humiliated as everyone knows that they converted to Christianity for 1,000 dinars every Friday,” the imam told Echorouk.
