Algeria :40 corruption-related affairs handled by justice since January 2008
A total of 35 people have already been sent to prison after standing trial before several local courts.

Algeria's national police services dealt with 40 corruption-related affairs involving a host of executives of several public enterprises over the last s months, according to corroborating sources.

These corruption affairs were brought to the open following a through investigation conducted by the judicial police services of the DGSN.

According to the same sources, 35 people have already been sent to prison after standing trial before several local courts.

The charges levelled against them include, embezzlement of public funds, financial malpractice, abuse of trust and corruption practices.

It should be noted that 97 similar affairs were dealt with by Algerian justice last year while 194 others still, related to bribery, were handled in 2006.

This had led to the imprisonment for heavy sentences of 106 people.
