The same sources added that 900 officials were giving jail and non-custodial sentences while 500 are waiting from the judicial authorities to state on their cases. 148 elected officials are still under investigation.
Estimates show that executives and town hall civil servants are also facing legal proceedings for gross misconduct, including forgery real estate embezzlement and breach of public contract. 423 employees are concerned buy the proceedings.
345 private contractors have been sued for breaches of contracts for not fulfilling their promise to put into concrete form assigned projects.
The embezzled money due to these transgressions exceeded 300 million Algerian Dinars (over USD 4.5 million). A startling amount at a time where several localities went bankrupt due to mismanagement and embezzlement.
