Algeria : 500 million dinars earmarked to head off possible severe floodings

According to the water resources minister Abdelmalek Sellal, a financial package of 500 million dinars has been earmarked by the authorities as part of an action plan designed to ward off possible floodings resulting from heavy rainfalls in 7 cities of Algeria .

The 7 cities concerned by this plan, include the capital Algiers , Saida, Sidi Bel Abbes, M’sila, Batna, Annaba , Bejaia and Ghardaia.

The Minister explained that such a plan of action was geared to protecting cities and housing compounds from possible severe floodings caused by torrential rains.

He added that big renovation works would be undertaken in the cities’ drainage systems in order to face up to any contingency.

He added that several sections of the 15.000 kilometre- long piping network used for the supply of drinking water would also be rehabilitated in order to ensure a high-grade water quality and the protection of the citizens’ health.
