Algeria: 603 death sentences against terrorists since 2007
Different criminal courts in Algeria have pronounced 603 death sentences against terrorists since 2007. Most of them were pronounced by a court in Boumerdes (50 km east of Algiers) which condemned more than 200 terrorists.

In less than one month, Boumerdes court pronounced 77 death sentences and about 30 to life in prison.

A criminal court in Tizi Ouzou (100 km east of Algiers) pronounced around 10 death sentences against terrorists including the national leader of the Salafist Group Abdelmalek Droudkel.

According to the agenda of cases scheduled in 2008’s first criminal session, trials will touch 611 terrorists including 341 on the run. They are charged with belonging to terror groups, wilful murder, thefts and putting bombs in public places.

Boumerdes court has handled 90 terror-related so far out of the scheduled cases in the current criminal session. Over 340 terrorists on the run are prosecuted while 260 death sentences and life in prison have been pronounced so far.
