Algeria / 907 municipalities out of 1.541 have embarked on local urban development schemes.

The Ministry of the Interior and Local Assemblies has ordered the country’s municipalities, numbering a total of 1.541, to implement long – delayed urban development projects including the construction of public facilities and new housing units in various parts of the national territory.

• To this effect, the Governors of the 48 provinces of the country have been enjoined by the Interior Ministry to hold a broad – based meeting with the Mayors to examine how best to ensure the speedy implementation of these outstanding development schemes.
• So far, only 907 municipalities have started implementing such projects in line with the clear guidelines issued, of late, by the President of the Republic Abdellaziz Bouteflika.
