Algeria Accepts the Military Option in Mali
Algeria crystallized an unfamiliar position on Mali crisis, which lifted its reservation on the option of a military solution, which has been rejected in its diplomatic lexicon, since this crisis began last spring, following the coup that toppled the former president, Hamadou Toumani Toure.
Foreign Ministry said it did not stand against the military option to end the control of armed Islamic groups, affiliated to al-Qaeda in northern Mali, and confirmed that it agrees with all possible options, including the option of the military intervention.
APS quoted the Official Spokesman to the FM, Ammar Blaney, as stating that “Algeria always asserted that the use of all means, including force, is necessary to eliminate terrorist groups and transnational organized crime in the Sahel region, and it is not only with the total political”.
FM’s official defended the official position, in what it means, that Algeria is not responsible for interpretations which explained the position of the crisis, and said: “There is a tendency in recent days towards interpreting the Algerian position as simple with the omission of certain important elements of our vision and make it all simply inconsistent with the position of some partners in the region”.
“Algeria, contrary to what they say, is not entirely with the political entity, as we have emphasized consistently that the right to resort to all means, including force to eliminate terrorist groups and transnationalorganized crime in the Sahel region.”
