In the wake of a declaration made by the Algerian interior Minister Yazid Zerhouni on the elimination of three dangerous terrorists in the eastern province of Batna who were behind the attempted assassination of President Bouteflika last year, security services have broken up a terrorist cell specialized in the making of explosives.

After a sustained in-depth investigation in the Batna region, security forces have succeeded in rounding up several suspected terrorists belonging to an underground cell intent on perpetrating planned suicide bombings in the area.

According to several testimonies made by arrested terrorists, the so-called Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb has resorted to the expertise of other Al Qaeda members, based abroad, to learn how to manufacture explosive vests in its mindless suicide bombing killing spree.

Recently, the German intelligence services are reported to have quashed an Internet web site used by terrorists supplying ample information on the making of such explosive devices.
