Algeria allocates 4 billion Euros for fight against terror between 2006 and 2010

Algeria allocated more than 4 billion Euros for the fight against terrorism and organized crime, according to Algerian Interior Minister Nourredine Zerhouni.

  • The Interior Minister said the money was cut from national development programs between 2006 and 2010.
  • « Algeria in its fight against terrorism and organized crime which threaten the Mediterranean region has made big sacrifices and allocated considerable means, said Zerhouni.
  • « It was a double obligation and an additional contribution of Algeria in serving collective safety in western the Mediterranean, » he added.
  • In the opening of the 13th conference of Western Mediterranean Interior Ministers, Zerhouni asked his counterparts to help Algeria in bearing such huge additional financial burden.
  • « I am still sure that solidarity and complementary initiatives of our partners will reinforce the efficiency of our fight… »
  • Algeria suggests the participation of media in the fight against terrorism and crimes. « If our acts have mainly been based on handling terrorism phenomenon in terms of security, it seems to me that we must not ignore the necessity of working in media and communication field, » said the Algerian minister.
  • He suggested dealing with an action plan in media means to face psychological acts of terrorism.
  • He also urged to face extremist propaganda which « occupies the communication spaces » by « making a common plan of communication to defy the new-dimension psychological war. »
