Algeria Bad Weather: Four dead, tens of injured and extensive material damage in severe floodings

The latest rainfalls which have poured down on several parts of Algeria notably on the region of the high plateaus have caused numerous casualties and widespread material damage to houses, roads, bridges and other basic infrastructures due to severe floodings.

 


 

  • Among other fatalities, 3 people including a 10 – year child were killed and 25 others injured when a passenger bus slipped dangerously near the village of Boudjemiel on national road n°7 linking Tlemcen to Sebra in the western part of Algeria.

  • The injured, some of them in a serious health condition, were rushed by the rescuers – squads to the university hospital of Tlemcen for first-aid treatment.

  • Elsewhere, in El Bayadh, a person perished and several others were injured following heavy floods which swept over several regions of the province.

  • A thirty – long meter bridge reportedly collapsed in Oued El Medsous in the Aflou area while a 33 – year old man drowned near the Merrara region in the same province.

  • 8 people trapped by the surging floodings due to the torrential rains were seriously injured in Aïn Oussara in Djelfa province and are now in an intensive care unit of the provincial hospital.

  • Several regions of the Algerian high plateaus as well as those of the eastern part of the country were severely affected by the floodings which wreaked havoc notably to houses, roads. Scores of cattle and sheep also perished as they were swept away by the surging waters.
