Algeria : billions of losses in fraudulent contracts at the national dams’ office
A total of 30 individuals were involved in the so called, second scandal of the national dams office.

The dean of the Algiers’ examining magistrates, was Saturday presented a through assessment concerning the so called “second scandal of the national dams office” in which fraudulent contracts have been passed to built the new office’s HQ and other major projects engendering billions of Algerian Dinars of losses.

A total of 30 individuals were involved in this affair including 9 of them were indicted in the first scandal, while the former president’s adviser and former general secretary of the association of Koran schools received lighter indictments.

According to sources, the defendants were accused of striking deals using illegal procedures including the sealing of contracts with imaginary entrepreneurs and issuing erroneous invoices. The second part of the inquiry is related to the big dams of Taksebt, Tizi Ouzou, Karamiss, Mostaghanem and Ben Haroun, Mila as well as several filtering and pumping stations.

Water resources minister, Abdelmalek Sellal sent a detailed report to the presidents in which he shed light on the several irregularities recorded in this sector and called for an urgent sending of an investigating committee to probe on the matter.
