Algeria Blessed military intervention in Mali
If the military intervention in northern Mali aims to combat terrorism, it is “important” because Algeria intends to proceed in this fight “by all means”, at a time the armed movement “Ansareddine” announced that it agrees to the Algerian mediation in the case of a dialogue, Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci says.
Medelci linked Algeria’s participation in the effort of military intervention in Mali with fighting terrorism, telling the press after talks with his Malian counterpart on Thursday in Bamako; “If the military intervention in northern Mali aims to fight terrorism, Algeria may have already shown its opinion on this subject. We consider it an important goal that should not make us forget that it aims to reach an effective fight against terrorism, that must also restore the national unity in Mali between the brothers, reconciliation and the recruitment of all Malian actors in order to build the future of Mali.”
Medelci’s statement are the first of the kind in which Algeria announces its intention to participate in the military intervention in Mali, after it called, since the beginning of Mali crisis, for a peaceful solution and dialogue with all armed factions, as Algeria through this idea won the European and American favor, with the exception of France, which pushed for a military intervention, and perhaps succeeded in the recent period to convince Algeria with its sollution, during the visit of Abdelkader Messahel to France last week, and statements of the French President François Holland, that said he would try to persuade President Bouteflika with the option of military intervention without pressurizing him.
If the military intervention in Algeria will be realized, it would cause a problem for Algeria due to an explicit article in the Algerian constitution, which defines the scope of the functions of the National People’s Army in the Algerian territory, and prohibits the military action outside the country.
In the same context, Medelci pointed to his “responsible and fraternal” statements with his Malian counterpart about the situation in the Sahel region, and the “brotherly relations between the two countries,” adding that those ties “were placed under the line due to a crisis that does not concern Mali alone, but it also belongs to the sahel countries” .
“We touched on the best ways to address this crisis, and we should address it within the confines of solidarity at the bilateral level and at the level of the core countries, taking into account what can the neighboring countries and the countries of the Economic Community of West Africa States, has to offer as a positive contribution,” he added.
“we need today to invite the international community, because we are all convinced that the fight against terrorism is a battle that calls all the international community, and that the latter can provide the critical contribution in the fight against terrorism and organized crime. We are confident of the possibility of developing a dialogue between Mali brothers and the fight against terrorism at the same time. “
