The Algerian foreign ministry Sunday called in the Moroccan ambassador to Algiers Abdelaziz Belkeziz to give convincing explanations about the man who entered the Algerian general consulate and tore the national flag on Friday.

According to a release issued on Sunday, the ambassador said his government was “sorry” and the Moroccan foreign minister contacted the Algerian ambassador to Rabat on the same day when the flag was torn.
In response to those unconvincing explanations, the foreign ministry officials reminded the Moroccan ambassador that Algeria does not accept the “isolated act.”
The release also reminded that a group of protesters were incited to offend Algeria, its symbols and senior officials. The Algerian authorities asked for an investigation to find out that Morocco took appropriate measures after the incident.
The foreign ministry held Moroccan authorities responsible for current escalation and tension, calling on Rabat to take and announce a clear position, condemn the hostile campaign against Algeria and respect its symbols.
