Algeria : demonstrators accuse political party leader of involvement in famous singer assassination
Crowds in eastern Kabylia shouted slogans in favour of the officialisation of Tamazight and the promotion of Berber culture at all levels.

Several regions of eastern Kabylia were the scene Sunday of massive street marches on the occasion of the commemoration of the 28th anniversary of the Berber spring movement sparked off on April 20th 1980 to wrench from the public authorities the officialisation of the Tamazight language and culture.

Imposing marches were staged notably in Tizi Ouzou and Bouira where crowds shouted slogans in favour of the officialisation of Tamazight and the promotion of Berber culture at all levels notably in the education sector and in the heavy media bodies.

Hundreds of militants also responded to the call by students of the Mouloud Mammeri University, the cradle and the sanctuary of the Amazigh movement, from where the flame of the Berber spring was ignited on April 20th 1980.

Meanwhile, in  Tizi Ouzou, groups of young angry demonstrators are reported to have inveighed against RCD party leader Said Sadi accusing him of being involved, together with some other RCD party executives, in the assassination of militant and precentor of the Berber song namely Maatoub Lounes, before being pacified by members of the coordination of the citizens’ movement.
