Algeria has not abolished its projects in the field of energy which it announced before the global financial crisis, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Chekib Khalil said Sunday.

“The group Sonatrach will continue carrying out all its investments that were previously programmed. Algeria will not stop the investment programmes because of the global financial crisis. It will depend on its domestic resources in financing the projects that were declared”.

“The government will neither stop these projects nor apply the decision on the need to get the largest stake in the sector’s projects in order to give more guarantees to the foreign partners. This decision will not only include the new projects which will start in the future but the old projects as well”.

The Minister of Energy Chekib Khalil spoke about the partnership between Algeria and the Singapore Company “HYFLUX” to complete a station for desalinating water with a power of 500.000 m3 per day, “Hyflux’s share is now 47% and 53% for Algeria”.

“The Algerian government will not approve the new projects in the sector without launching depth studies on the impacts of the projects on the environment both for the activities of the oil’ upstream or downstream. The services that are specialized in controlling the application of the law of oil energies 07-05 received 48 studies from international companies working in this field”.
