Algeria: expansion of subsidised consumption products list in complementary finance law
Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Belkhadem.

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem is expected to meet the majority of his cabinet from sectors concerned by the complementary finance law. The meeting comes to decide in a set of proposals directly relating to purchasing power level and rise in food prices.

  • The complementary finance law will determine the sum of money to be allocated for extending the list of subsidised consumption products.
  • The forthcoming meeting will be followed by other ministerial councils before submitting it to the governmental council.
  • The complementary finance law is likely to reveal allocated money for the implementation of a study prepared by trade ministry, Echorouk has learnt.
  • The list of subsidised consumption products is due to include chick-peas, beans, lentils, concentrated tomato in addition to subsidised products such as milk and semolina.
  • The law would also allocate money for covering financial jobs in civil service.
  • A proposal to unify companies’ interests in terms of the State’s revenues from taxes is expected to be decided as well.
  • Echorouk’s sources indicated the possibility of determining the tax on companies’ interests at around 12 percent.
