Algeria exports 100.000 tons of barley to Europe and Latin America

First shipment of Algerian barley surplus starts here on Saturday at the port of Algiers, as the process proves that Algeria is coming back to the international market of grain after an absence of more than 43 years, with knowledge that the last exportation of Algerian barley was in 1967.

 

  • The quantity to be exported is 100 thousand, acquired by a French trader, as it is the first process of exporting Algerian barley since the launch of an international tender for sale, where several cooperatives for grain and dry beans from Tiaret, and Telemcen, west of Algeria, and Constantine, Batna, Tebessa and Soukahras, east of Algiers.

  • The first quantities have been oriented to strict control at the level of local cooperatives before reaching Algiers port, in order to consider the standards and norms of exportation by the services of plant protection and technical control belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

  • Among 12 international companies, which had with drawn their book of conditions for the acquisition of surplus product of barley at the board of grain, six companies from Europe and Latin America presented bids to buy the entire quantity of barley surplus that are available in Algeria, because of the good quality, especially in terms of humidity.
