Algeria FM Summons French Consul Over “Humiliating” Measures Against Algerian Passengers

Algeria Foreign Ministry has summoned General Consul of France to express its objection to the new unilateral measures taken by France against Algerian passengers, as they are required to file their embarkation card to the consulate once returned from France.

Sources within the Foreign Ministry told Echrouk reporter, Djamel Laalami, that the Consul General to Algeria was conveyed “the firm objection” of the “discriminative and unacceptable” measures implemented “unilaterally by French authorities against Algerian nationals.
Such “humiliating, abusing and unfair” measures targeting “exclusively” Algerian passengers are “unacceptable and rejected,” the General Consul of France was told at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.
Echorouk understood that the French Consulate has been requiring Algerian holding Schengen visa travelling to France to show the embarkation card for the consulate once returned from France.
Pledging to convey the Algerian objection to the authorities of his country, the French General Consul justified the said measures by “an attempt to curb illegal migration to France.”
Yet, the controversial French measures against Algerian passengers go against the European collective agreements, the source specified.
France Embassy in Algeria grants 140 thousand visas to Algerian applicants annually, noting that the rejection rate downed to 29 percent.
