Algeria / Former Gendarme convicted by a Court on embezzlement charges.

A criminal court in the city of Oran in western Algeria has sentenced a former Gendarme to 5 years in prison on charges of malpractice and embezzlement.    3 other elements of this paramilitary body were also convicted on the same charges.      The former Gendarme, who received the 5 year prison sentence, used at that time his rank as lieutenant to embezzle a lot of money from fellow gendarmes from the rank and file to whom he promised incentives and other social benefits through his so – called high placed acquaintances.   But the culprit was later exposed and 12 bamboozled Gendarmes filed legal proceedings against him in the city of Oran, way back in 2004.   This affair touched a great uproar within the national Gendarmerie forces.
