Giant paper producer group Tonic was Sunday completely paralysed when the energy and gas company “Sonelgaz” decided to stop power supply for all its units sparking panic among the group’s workers who great concerns bout their future activities.

  • The energy company resorted to this decision following a second warning sent to the group’s liquidator who refused to pay the bills.
  • For his part, Tonic’s general manager, Abdelghani Djerrar, accused the liquidator of willing to dismantle the group with all means and throw its 4000 employees into the street, adding that the workers are due to organize today a sit at the group’s HQ, to call on the president to intervene in order to stop what they considered as a deliberate move to tear apart the biggest group in Algeria.
  • In a declaration to “Echourok”, the employees revealed that they were confronted to a blackmail attempt from the liquidator who asked them to choose between paying the electricity bill or get their salaries.
