Algeria grants 99 percent of five-year plan projects to national companies

Algeria will grant its five-year plan projects to national companies including the East-West Motorway, says public works minister.

“The next five-year plan projects including the High Lands’ Motorway will be achieved by national companies,” Ammar Ghoul told his staff in a meeting held on Wednesday.

The State allocated 3,100 billion DZ as part of the five-year plan 2010-2014 aiming at lifting many areas in the country out of isolation.

Ghoul said the government chose national companies as there is a need to rely on local resources and benefit from acquired experience. “Public works sector will join the sustainable development endeavour which will have positive impacts on projects lasting for more than 100 years.”

The minister also said the projects expected to be achieved by 2014 consist in 4,000 km of motorways lifting 10 million residents out of isolation in high lands, mountainous areas and the great south. “These projects will contribute in setting up 5,000 new companies and 600 research offices. They will also create about 700,000 new jobs compared with 561,000 in the five-year plan 2005-2009.

“The next five-year plan will enable to carry out 9,000 trainings and introduce 50 new techniques in roads and technical facilities construction sector.”

“A new computer program will be operational in all public works departments. It is meant to make roads maintenance easier,” said Ghoul.
