Algeria owns a strategic stock of grains which secures flour and semolina consumption for 6 months as harvest season is approaching; which supports stock, Weld Hussein, the National Agriculture Chamber’s President told Echorouk El Yaoumi.

In a press conference organized Comesta group “comesta“ at  the chamber’s headquarters on the occasion of the 1st  milk salon from May 27 to 29, Weld Hussein said Algeria needs to provide conditions for milk production development by supporting farmers with cow’s food.

 He stated that milk collection currently includes 25,000 litres only and most of the production is exploited by farmers to feed calves due to cows’ food lack.

Weld Hussein welcomed the government’s decision to stop the importation of frozen meat. He considered it as “a good initiative.” 

“We seek more care from the government for Algerian stockbreeders and their professional circumstances,” he added.

According to him, the decision falls within the country’s sovereignty in securing its food needs. In the same regard, the Agricultural Chamber’s President pointed out that there are 300,000 sheep head for slaughter which can be exploited in meat freezing process.

For his part, General Manager of Far Vast Marketing company, concessionaire of Milgro milk production brand and one of the milk fair’s sponsors told Echorouk El Yaoumi that they aspire to invest in Algeria by setting up a powder milk factory.

According to him, they could not make official contacts with the Algerian authorities to run their experience in Algeria.

Their parent company produces more than 20 thousand tons annually and has positioned investment in New Zealand. It also spreads across 40 states, he added.
