Algeria launches new initiative to eliminate foreign intervention in Libya
Algeria continues its endeavors to eliminate foreign interference spectrum in Libya. It received officials from neighboring countries. Of them, Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou who is visiting Algeria on Sunday. He will meet a number of Algerian officials including President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
The two-day visit is the third of its kind of an African president from the Sahel or neighboring countries.
The beginning was with Chadian President Idriss Deby’s visit in late December followed by Senegalese President Macky Sall in mid-January.
Senegal played a prominent role in justifying foreign military intervention in Mali. Niger and Chad played the same role along with Mali and they showed similar intentions towards the Libyan crisis.
Algeria convinced Chadian President to modify his position by not supporting foreign intervention and calling for a political solution.
Algeria is likely to convince Niger’s President to change his position as well.
This visit will also be an opportunity to examine bilateral issues related to illegal migrants.
