  • Thousands of communal workers across the municipalities of Algeria have decided to scale up their strike action by extending it by 8 more days in a bid to alert the relevant authorities to their paltry working conditions.

  • According to a spokesman for the autonomous SNAPAP trade union, the current communal workers’ strike has up to now been crowned with success reaching a –striking-rate of over 72% across the national territory.

  • He said that the current work-stoppage would be prolonged by eight more days in an attempt to bring the officials in charge of their pending file at the ministry of the interior and local assemblies to fulfill their demands for higher wages and better working conditions.

  • The SNAPAP spokesman also reiterated the municipal workers’ adamant resolve to resort to their legitimate right to strike action as long as necessary until all their long-neglected claims were duly met by the relevant authorities.
