Algeria Opposition Figure, Abdelhamid Brahimi, Returns Home

After an absence of about 26 years, Algerian opposition figure who was behind uncovering the $26 billion scandal, Abdelhamid Brahimi, returned to Algeria from the self-imposed exile in Britain, in an unexpected decision that surprised many observers.
According to available information, Abdelhamid Brahimi, returned on board of an Airways Royal Moroccan plane, where some of his friends were waiting for him at Houari Boumediene Airport, in the capital Algiers, including a lawyer, which means that the man was preparing for all possibilities, especially since he is known for his fierce opposition against power in the period that followed the nineties.
Brahimi, who served as Prime Minister, during the era of the late President, Chadli Bendjedid, during the period between 1984-1988, left Algeria at the beginning of the nineties, and he was obliged, as he said in an earlier interview with Echorouk, fearing for his life, after he was subjected to death threats by parties which he refused to name at the time.
He was deprived of his passport for the duration of his absence from Algeria, as it was confirmed in his interview, and he said: “If they gave me my Algerian passport Algerian I’ll travel tomorrow back to my country, but they prevent me from getting this right”, which means that the son of the Scholar Moubarek El Mili, obtained a passport which enabls him to return back to his country in natural and legal conditions.
Former Prime Minister, is one of the prominent political figures who opposed the electoral process in the early nineties, and launched a fiery statements against the existing system, through media interviews and intellectual contributions.
During his stay in self-imposed exile in Britain, Abdelhamid Brahimi worked as a Professor in many universities, including the French, British and even American, like Georgetown University and Washington University.
His passion for science prompted his friends to call him “Abdelhamid La Science”, and his period of leading Government noticed a terrible decline in oil prices which reached eight dollars per barrel, and the results of that were October 1988 events, which ended his career in government.
