Algeria: Orders to listen to youngsters’ demands and concerns
Riots in Oran province (west of Algiers).
Security sources revealed to Echorouk that they adopted an urgent strategy to confront the protests vastness which has taken place in some national areas.

The same sources said security forces prepared a security and preventive plan to stop the protests transmission that left material damages. “Activating Medias” work and exploitation of all the received information” are also included in the plan in cases where sure information about organizing protests is available. This to take measures to secure places that are targeted by destruction and robbery such as banks, post and tax offices, municipalities, and police stations.

The same sources added that investigations have been carried out on possible riots’ instigators- according to information about offenders and unprecedented in criminal cases at each region levels in order to detect their activities and control them. This work is done by the police in collaboration with the Gendarmerie forces.

The adopted security plan was reviewed to keep attention on gaps and shortcomings that had prevented acts of vandalism.

In parallel with that, security personnel begun a collaborating work in popular districts described as “sensitive” and black points that remain ready for strikes through listening to the youngsters’ concerns. An attempt to accept their demands and a preparation of periodic reports are considered as well.

This work may allow the activation of civil society which was criticized by the minister of interior. He wondered about its real role after being absent in the recent events especially in Chlef province (west of Algeria).

A security official told Echorouk that their work is based on “activating the preventive and judiciary police” in order to thwart attacks and crimes before they occur. They bet on citizen’s task and avoiding the use of traditional and oppression methods.

The preventive police are responsible for executing laws. When they become more able to approach the community, they will be capable of preventing and combating crime.

The National Gendarmerie called for more work to “remove barriers between the citizen and the security personnel through awareness and intensifying communication then building dialogue”. Captain Suidi Bousif mentioned that the traditional measures achieved limited results. He confirmed that repression will lead to widen the gap between the community and security personnel.

He suggested intensifying prevention programmes that have achieved positive results confirming that “ citizen’s role is not less important than the security man’s in achieving these security goals.”

Suidi talked about his research to Echorouk saying that it was a police experience adopted by the national security genera-director to bring citizens near to the police and work for cooperation with him to fight violence and all crime forms.”
