Algeria: “Over 1 million sq meters of state lands grabbed for token sum”
Informed sources told “Echorouk” that about one million square meters of lands belonging to the state had been sold for a token sum (symbolic dinar) at the behest of certain shadowy influential members of the state apparatus.
- Most of these dilapidated real-estate properties were grabbed by senior officials and high executives within the state apparatus.
- For instance, sumptuous villas worth at least 10 billion centimes were given away to these shadowy officials for less than 500 thousand dinars, according to the same sources.
- They added that the head of state Mr Abdellaziz Boutreflika had, of late, ordered the opening of an in-depth investigation into reported shady and corruption practices with the aim of exposing all those who had indulged into the frenzied dilapidation of state lands notably those belonging to the agricultural and industrial sector by turning them into a personal real-estate property with no expenditure.
