Algeria : party leader assaulted by his opponent

Serious skirmishes characterized the proceedings of the movement for society ahead of the fourth meeting, where the leader, Abu Djerra Soltani was Wednesday ill-treated by his opponents led by a member of the state council close to Abu Djerra’s main rival, Abdelmadjid Menassra.

Following this unprecedented and scandalous act perpetrated against one of the party’s symbols, the question was raised to the consultative council which was discussing the matter till late at night. So far nothing has been mentioned as to the measures decided against the wrongdoer, but all it seems that disciplinary

measures are most likely to be implemented against him.

According to several members in the consultative council, this incident was an outcome of deep dissentions within the party, since no consensus was found between the national committee and the commission in charge of the organization of the upcoming meeting as to the list of the members of the future bureau.
