Algeria police comb 5,000 suspicious areas
Police forces have beefed up inspection and surveillance campaigns since the Algiers December 11 attacks.

More than 5,000 security campaigns were carried out by the police during the first semester of 2008 within the fight against crime.

Sensitive places, “suspicious” popular coffee shops, public markets and bus stations were combed as well as shanty towns. As a result, 540 suspects were arrested while 70,265 people were questioned during the first semester of 2008.
