Algeria president assigns human rights watchdog to submit reports to UN
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika defined the prerogatives of the Consultative National Commission for Human Rights Promotion in assessing human rights situation and presenting proposals.

The commission headed by Farouk Ksentini is assigned to study all the situations relating to human rights violation. It works in awareness-raising campaigns and social communication to promote human rights.

It also submits an annual report to the president of the republic on the situation of human rights alongside with reports to the United Nations, its commissions and regional institutions.

According to the Journal Officiel, the commission include four representatives of the President’s office and the cabinet, two members of the Council of the Nation, two members of the National Assembly, a member of the High Council and the Superior Council of Arabic, the Superior Commissionership of Tamazight Language, the Economic and Social National Council, the National Council for Family and Women.
