Algeria / Preventive struggle against corruption: Several customs officers reassigned to other duties

The regional Manager of the customs services of the port of Algiers has undertaken a partial reshuffle of the customs corporation at the level of the various structures of the port of Algiers as part of the preventive struggle against corruption practices.

Well informed sources told Echorouk that this reshuffle concerned 8 customs’ officers and inspectors who had worked more than 3 consecutive years at the port of Algiers.

The same sources also suggest that a “clean-up operation” is to be launched shortly by the customs’ General Manager and will concern not less than 9 senior officers of the various customs services of several ports of the country.

In a separate development, customs agents of the port of Algiers have seized, of late, 70 kg of narcotics which were hidden by a Franco- Algerian on board his 406 car bound on a car-ferry boat for the port of Marseille.

According to a customs’ officer, the value of this drug seized is estimated at 3000 Euros in France while in Algeria it is worth 6 millions centimes.
