Algeria refuses to consider Muslim brotherhood as terrorist organization
Algeria rejected a Saudi-Emirati proposal to consider the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization as its foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra was on a visit to Saudi Arabia, according to a diplomatic source.
“Minister Lamamra expressed Algeria’s refusal to a Saudi-Emirati proposal about promulgating a law to consider the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. It also suggested to open an investigation about businessmen thought to be partisans of the Muslim Brotherhood in Algeria,” the source told a British news website.
“Envoys from Saudi Arabia and UAE visited Algeria in the last three months for that reason,” it added.
“Algeria’s position in foreign affairs is clear. It does not interfere in domestic affairs including groups and organizations. It also rejects any foreign interference in its internal affairs.”
Algeria asked Saudi Arabia to give lists of people involved in terror-related cases so that it will include them in the black list. “This is being discussed at present,” said the same source.
It added that Algeria has no problem with moderate Islamic parties either part of the regime or opposition.
Saudi and Emirati authorities did not make any comments about this issue.
