Algeria resolved to help Libya in facing plague, says minister
Said Barkat, Algerian health minister
Algerian health ministry allocated the entire human and physical means to face the plague after it reached Libya, minister said on Sunday.
-
“The national borders with Libya are secured from the spread of the disease due to intensified prevention measures in the provinces next to this country,” Said Barkat told Echorouk on an inspection visit to Oran (west of Algiers).
-
“Algeria will help Libya to face the plague if it asks for that,” he added.
-
The minister denied any new case of swine flu confirmed in Oran in response to a rumour on a man who had died of heart attack.
-
“Algeria has confirmed two cases only: a mother and her son coming from the US. They have recovered and they will join their family,” he said.
-
He also said the ministry bought 6.5 million units of anti-virus Tamiflu and manufactured a generic medicine in Algeria.
-
He expressed his fears over possible new cases of the flu among the Algerians living abroad who arrived to Algeria.
-
Speaking on the pilgrimage season, he said the ministry will not prevent the Algerian pilgrims from performing the religious act only if all the Muslim countries agree on not sending their pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
-
“Tunisia is the only country which has taken this decision.”
