Algeria: RND leader says he will not run for president if Bouteflika does so
Ahmed Ouyahia.

Secretary General of the National Democratic Rally (RND) Ahmed Ouyahia launched strong signs to implicitly confirm that Algeria will attend in Paris summit. “Algerians do not need to be more nationalist than Palestinians themselves especially that Mahmoud Abbas will be there in the summit,” he said Thursday.

  • Ouyahia criticised all foreign voices which blamed Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika for shaking hands with Israeli Prime Minister Ihud Barak during funeral of King Hassan II of Morocco. “Their noise especially the Arab ones shows hypocrisy as the Algerian position towards the Palestinian issue and relations with Israel are not negotiable.”

  • The RND’s Secretary General said his party will not submit any proposals regarding the constitutional amendment. “It is a part of the President’s prerogatives.”
  • Additionally, he mentioned that his support to the president for a third presidential mandate is not new. “I have expressed this position for many times.”
  • “I have already said I will not run for president if President Bouteflika does so. I am saying that once again today,” he added.

  • I will not present the government programme to the Parliament

  • The Algerian Prime Minister said he will not present his programme to the Parliament as it has something to do with the implementation of the president’s programme. He gave an example that former Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem avoided to present the government programme when he succeeded him.

  • Ahmed Ouyahia said he will not approve anarchic pay raises in civil service as there is a need to be based on an economic approach.
  • According to him, the incomes of public treasury from fiscal concerns out of hydrocarbons can not afford to cover the salaries.
  • Speaking on aid grant policy regarding some main products, Ouyahia gave the go-ahead for it but he suggested adopting reform policies in agriculture at the same time.

  • Ouyahia stressed his resolve to face corruption and its aspects. He cleary said he is for death penalty in public money embezzlement, children rape, kidnapping and drug cases.
