Algeria security foils suicide attack on police station
Algerian security forces this week caught a suicide bomber who tried to blow himself up at a police station in the area of Bab El Oued in Algiers, Echorouk has learnt.
The security forces saw the terrorist wearing an explosive belt and preparing himself in a mosque next to the police station. He worked for Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
The 40-year-old man who joined armed groups late in the 1990’s carried a gun and a cell phone, according to the same sources.
He told investigators another terrorist was assigned to blow up another police station in Bab El Oued.
This comes as security forces received information about terror threats on France’s embassy in Algiers following its intervention in Mali. Al-Qaeda warned of taking revenge and hitting its facilities.
The arrested terrorist gave other information about Al-Qaeda’s eastern front including the province of Boumerdes where 8 terrorists were killed.
Al-Qaeda’s affiliated groups plan to intensify their terror acts in northern Algeria. Security forces stepped up measures and patrols around their departments.
