Algeria sixth largest importer of arms in the world

Algeria ranks Sixth largest country importer of arms between 2008/2012, Stockholm International Institute of Peaceful Research says.

Algeria ranks on top of the list of Arab and African countries that are largest importer of arms.Same institute shows that Morocco ranks 12.

The report which was announced on Monday by the international institute of peaceful research, which took of the Swiss capital its headquarter, shows that Algeria’s imports from arms in the last four years, represents 4% of the total imports in the world, without specifying the material value for it, as the institute used in its classification the quantity of arms which it is imported, and not the sum of money that is allocated for these imports.

According to the same source, China ranks on top of the countries that are largest importer of arms, followed by India, while among the Arab countries that are largest armament importer after Algeria, there are UAE which ranks ninth, Saudi Arabia 10, Morocco 12, Iraq 17, as Algeria raised the volume of its imports from arms in light of the security threats that were imposed on it, especially in the Sahel region, where terrorist groups fled after the death of Muammar Gaddafi specifically.
